CHS 1963

Constance Burtis Taylor

I was given your website at least third hand.  I had lost contact with all my Cortland friends after working and marriage (You know how that is).  I am going to try to send a picture after I send this email.   I really enjoy reading about my classmates!

I graduated from Virginia Intermont College in Bristol VA/TN.  My first job was at Merchants National Bank in Syracuse NY.  I moved to Clifton Park NY in 1968 and began working at DJ Moore Advertising.  While there, I met my future husband, John,  at a going away luncheon for the girl I was replacing.  After a whirlwind courtship, John and I were married three months later.  I then worked for Peat, Marwick Mitchell & Co (world's largest CPA firm at the time).

In 1973 we decided we had had enough of the snow and moved to Port Charlotte FL.  I worked for United Telephone Co. which later became Sprint, for 26 years.  Loved my job until consolidation when if became more important to sell products than customer service.  My last year at Sprint I worked in Assignment with the technicians,  away from the everyday stress of selling.  I retired in 2000.  John said if I was retiring, so would he.

While in Florida, we had four homes - three of which John built.  He had his own construction company, Taylor Construction Co.    We always lived on the water and enjoyed boating.

In 1988, we started looking for a place for retirement.  We discovered Lake Martin in AL and in 1990 bought a small A-frame.  John added another A-frame and apartment for guests.  In 2001, we wanted to get away from the heat  and the threat of hurricanes, so we moved full time to AL.   In 2004 Hurricane Charley made Port Charlotte Ground Zero.  We felt we left just in time.   We enjoy the quiet and small town atmosphere.  We go boating and swim when the weather and lake level permits.

We love traveling in our motor home and enjoy the camaraderie of other RVers.  My dream vacation is Montana and Utah.  We have been married 39 years and enjoyed every moment.

Thank you Barbara and Steve for this great website.  Reading the autobiographies brings back so many wonderful memories, especially our Senior Year.  Who had Mr. Khalil for a homeroom teacher?
