Hi folks,
After graduating from high school I went to
SUNY Cortland for a year thinking I wanted to be a elementary education
teacher....but I didn’t like the idea of chasing rug-rats around, so I left
college life for army life. I went into the army in the summer of "64" where
I trained at Fort Dix, NJ. After Basic I went to Fort Gordon, Georgia for 9
months training in Aircraft radio electronics....bench and air radio repair.
From there I went to Germany for 26 months, traveled around Europe a lot,
and visited relatives in Italy a number of times. I received an honorable
discharge in May of "67".
When I returned to Cortland I went to work at
Smith Corona, took a 4 year apprenticeship program for Tool and Die making,
and was there for 18 years as a tool and die maker. Low and behold I gained
certification from New York State to teach adult education at BOCES. I also
taught the apprenticeship program at Corona Machine Trades, and developed a
theory class that I taught for a few years.
When SCM left town I took on another career
as a salesman for RH Fowler in Cortland where I sold car care products.
After being on the road for 14 years I decided I needed a job where I didn't
have to travel everyday, so I decided to go back to machining. I now work at
Borg Warner Morse Tech. It's on Luker Rd and only 1 mile from my home in
Cortlandville just off RT. 222.
I got married in 1988, have a beautiful wife,
and an equally beautiful 16 year old daughter, a junior at Cortland
High, who is breaking a lot of hearts. I'll probably work until I’m 80 to
put her through college where her major will be Forensic Science. I'll
probably be selling body parts until she's is done.
I've enjoyed bowling for a number of years,
play golf, hunt and fish whenever I can. I've been playing baritone horn in
the Cortland Old Timers Band since 1967. I played trumpet for a number of
years before switching to the baritone. We are a 60 piece band that plays
all types of music all over Central NY.
I was a committee person for the Republican
party in Cortland County for 20 years, and also served as chair in the city,
and Town of Cortlandville. I am no longer as active as a I was, but when
asked to help, I do.
A few years ago I had the honor of nominating
a fellow classmate to the Cortland High School “Wall of Fame”. Retired
Brigadier General Phil Tennant. I hope to see as many of you as possible at
our reunion.
A big thanks to Barb for getting the ball
rolling, and to Steve for setting up this great web site.
